| Tuesday, 30 January, 2001, 18:26 GMT Alcohol ban at social club ![]() Llandudno has a scheme to cut pub and club crime A seaside social club with more than 200 members has been banned from serving alcohol - after complaints from police about the way it was run. Magistrates at Llandudno heard that although the town's West Shore club was a member of the local 'Pub Safe' scheme to reduce crime and disorder, police found posters there promoting the use of cannabis. Officers armed with a warrant to search for drugs and fake currency had raided the club in August 2000. They discovered a knife hidden under the floorboards which had traces of what appeared to be cannabis. One club member had been cautioned for possessing the drug.
There was also concern because club accounts had not been provided and no annual general meeting had been held since 1997 to elect club officials. The magistrates agreed to a police request for the club's registration to be cancelled. The court ruled that club chairman Mr Michael Livingstone and treasurer David Jones, who were responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the premises, were unfit to be involved in the management. The club was ordered to pay police costs of 500. |
