| Saturday, 18 November, 2000, 12:34 GMT Pudsey raises �0.5m in Wales ![]() Rhodri and Frances hosted Children in Need from Swansea More than half a million pounds was raised in Wales for the BBC's Children in Need appeal. Fundraisers from all over Wales raised money through various events and stunts in the 21st year of the appeal. Altogether �12m was pledged thoughout the UK, half a million pounds more than last year's on-the-night total. Crowds thronged the centre of Swansea on Friday night to help the BBC Children in Need appeal raise a total of �523,754 in Wales. "This is a great result - it's amazing how people dip into their pockets - our thanks to the people of Wales," said Jenny Lewis, BBC Children in Need's national co-ordinator for Wales.
And Frances and Rhodri kept up a non-stop round of entertainment and music broadcast on BBC One Wales, with BBC Radio Wales presenter Lisa Barsi updating viewers from Broadcasting House in Cardiff. There a giant inflatable Pudsey watched over the creation of a Pudsey ice sculpture. Jason Mohammad brought television updates from events in Aberystwyth. Throughout the day, fundraisers from all corners of Wales were out and about, dressing outrageously, performing silly stunts and generally having a hilarious time as they collected cash to swell Children In Need's coffers. "I am delighted to see everyone get into the spirit of BBC Children In Need all around Wales," said BBC Wales controller Menna Richards. "So many people have been generous with their time, their ideas and their money to make this year's Children In Need a huge success." Welsh soprano Charlotte Church peformed a duet to help in the effort. Gala concert On BBC Radio Wales, presenters Lisa Barsi, Lisa Matthews and Kevin Hughes entertained crowds at Cardiff in a live broadcast from the BBC's Broadcasting House. Designer David Emanuel , the creator of Catherine Zeta Jones wedding dress, joined them for a song, as did Stars In Their Eyes winner Louise Halliday. In Mold, Idris Charles welcomed families from Flintshire for a gala concert at Theatr Clwyd for BBC Radio Cymru, while Radio Cymru presenters Dafydd Du and Geraint Lloyd broadcast from Aberystwyth. Fellow presenters Kevin Davies and Nia Lloyd Jones spent their day visiting schools at Crosshands, Swansea and Cwm Gwendraeth.
