Courtney Pine will pay homage to one of his influences at the festival |
One of the UK's most famous jazz musicians will take to the stage during the Dundee Jazz Festival. Saxophonist Courtney Pine will be looking to entertain the crowds with his tribute to Sydney Bechet, who was one of his influences. Traditional jazz band the Batchelors of Jazz and dance acts Rumba Caliente and Melting Pot will also perform. The Dundee Jazz Festival runs from 20 to 23 November at various venues across the city and beyond. Fiona Alexander, one of the festival's directors, said: "There's a huge range of activities going on - from local bands to international jazz megastars and we're covering a very broad stylistic base of jazz as well, from cutting-edge contemporary through to the older traditional styles of jazz. "Courtney Pine has got a new band and a new project. So a new band, new project and a jazz star all coming to Dundee. "There has been considerable interest, but obviously in these hard times you need to work a little bit harder and you need to have as much innovation in the programme as you do in the music, so what we've decided to do this year is take a lot of jazz to a lot of different venues."
