Heavy rainfall blamed for floods

Flood waters inundate a fenced field
JBA Consulting Ltd blamed the flood waters on exceptional heavy rainfall

An investigation into the cause of January's severe flooding in Clackmannanshire has blamed exceptionally high levels of rainfall.

Dozens of homes and businesses in the area were inundated by flood waters after the River Devon burst its banks.

Worst affected were residents in Elistoun Drive and Kirktoun Gardens. Many homes remain uninhabitable.

Clackmannanshire Council will hold a public meeting on 3 July to update locals about future flood provisions.

Following January's flooding, the local authority approached JBA Consulting Ltd to assess the factors behind it and to come up with possible solutions.

Councillors have also approached some residents about putting in place interim flood defences on individual properties.

Those behind the scheme hope it will avoid creating further flood risks up or down stream of affected areas.

The public meeting will be held at Devonvale Hall in Tillicoultry at 1900 BST on Thursday 3 July.
