Health boards in Tayside and Forth Valley are to get over 3m to help combat alcohol abuse, the Scottish Government has announced.

The cash is part of a 25m plan by the government to tackle the issue across the country.

The share-out was announced by Public Health Minister Shona Robison who said a long-term strategy was being developed to deal with the problem.

NHS Tayside will get 1,816,885 while NHS Forth Valley receives 1,275,324.

Ms Robison said: "This funding will ensure that people across Scotland have access to advice and support about their drinking and to treatment services where necessary.

"We are currently developing a long-term strategic approach to tackling alcohol misuse.

"We plan to publish our proposals for action before the summer."
