Developers are starting work on the construction of two new schools in Perthshire.

The Glenearn Community Campus will be a new purpose-built facility in Perth to replace Caledonian Road Primary and Friarton Nursery.

The Strathearn Community Campus will replace the current Crieff High School on its existing and extended site.

The facilities are part of a 136m project which will see six new schools constructed across Perth and Kinross.

Private company Axiom Education will operate and maintain the six campuses for 30 years.

Construction contractor, Laing O'Rourke, has taken possession of the sites for the Glenearn Community Campus and the Strathearn Community Campus and is starting preparatory works.

The Glenearn Community Campus, which will be renamed Inch View Primary School, will house 80 full time nursery pupils and 350 primary children.

About 800 pupils will be taught at the Strathearn Community Campus, which will also feature a dance studio, fitness suite, public library, music and drama studios and information technology suite.

Both campuses are expected to open in 2009.
