Pupils were due to move into the school in August

Falkirk Council said Kinnaird Primary School will be "open for learning" on 9 January.

The project, which is part of large development to meet growing population numbers in Larbert, was due for completion in August.

Delays to the project were blamed on the late delivery of infrastructure.

The new school will accommodate about 430 pupils and also feature a nursery.

The school was build using a range of eco friendly construction methods, including a breathable wall system, sedum or "living" roof and natural ventilation.

'Extra mile'

While pupils waited for the building to be completed they have been housed in a temporary campus at Stenhousemuir Primary School.

Dr Alex Waddell, convener of the education and leisure committee, said: "Both staff from education and development services have gone the extra mile to ensure that the challenges faced have been overcome to finally allow the new school to open for business.

"I am also very grateful to the headteacher and her staff for the way in which they have provided an excellent education in temporary accommodation.

"Significant progress has been made on the site infrastructure and now that the pedestrian access is in place, we can open the new school to staff and pupils."

The new school will also feature an assisted learning support facility.
