 Local authorities spend more than �2.5m clearing up illegal waste |
Delegates are meeting at a special conference in Dunblane aimed at cutting growing levels of fly-tipping. The Scottish Fly Tipping Forum, organised by the Keep Scotland Beautiful group, said 40,000 cases of fly-tipping were reported last year.
Representative from Scotland's local authorities and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) are also attending the event.
Figures show local authorities pay up to �2.5m a year to clear illegal waste.
Reported instances of fly tipping have continued to increase in recent years with the number of prosecutions also rising.
The frequency of household waste collections has led some to suggest the problem may become worse as councils move to fortnightly rubbish collections.
Studies show that up to 80% of fly-tipping is domestic waste.
Those involved in the conference, being held at Dunblane's Hydro Hotel, are looking at ways of developing a national response to deal with the issue.
