Shoes tell domestic abuse story
Domestic abuse exhibition
The exhibition will also feature the shoes of domestic abuse victims
A new exhibition featuring 104 pairs of women's shoes is aiming to highlight the issue of domestic abuse.

The footwear, donated by Scottish women including JK Rowling and Elaine C Smith, represents the number killed as a result of such abuse each year.

The exhibition, which will tour Forth Valley, marks the start of a 16-day international campaign aiming to eliminate violence against women.

The shoes will be accompanied by a note of explanation from their owner.

The exhibition will also feature the footwear of some women who have died at the hands of their former partners.

'Remain silent'

It has been organised by Clackmannanshire Council, which will use its travelling art gallery to take the exhibition on the road.

Local men are being urged to get involved in the issue by supporting the international White Ribbon Campaign.

Anne Salter, the Stirling Council's violence against women policy co-ordinator, said: "A man wearing a white ribbon is making a personal pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.

"By participating in the white ribbon campaign men can help create a culture where the behaviour of a minority, who treat women and girls with contempt or violence, becomes unacceptable."

The exhibition, on loan from the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA), will be on display across Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire from 26 to 30 November.
