The equivalent of 550 bottles of vodka were confiscated |
The equivalent of 1,000 cans of beer have been recovered by Central Scotland Police after raids to cut under-age drinking and vandalism in the area. Officers carried out 52 operations in Stirling's eastern villages, Callander and Dunblane as part of Operation Impact, during the six-month campaign.
An extra 550 litres of alcohol was also confiscated during weekend patrols.
Despite the raids, the force said there was an increasing problem of adults buying alcohol for youngsters.
In Camelon, near Falkirk, community officers have begun trialling 'alco-dips' in an effort to tackle under-age drinkers in the town.
The device is used to alert officers to the presence of alcohol which may be disguised as a soft drink.
Stirling area commander Supt Gary Lawrie said: "There is no doubt that disorder and vandalism are directly linked to the consumption of alcohol.
"Operation Impact aims to target those responsible in an intelligence-led way by attempting to take alcohol off the streets before there is a chance for individuals to drink it.
Supt Lawrie added that the purchase of alcohol by adults on behalf of youths was also a concern.
He said: "We need communities to tell us who is doing this. It is all our responsibilities to report where this is happening and allow the police to take strong action.
"I would also suggest that it is the responsibility of parents to know where their children are at any given time and let us know if they have been offered or supplied alcohol and who by.
"Let's not wait until someone is seriously injured or worse."
