Official figures on exam pass rates have been released

The city's pass rate was one of the poorest in Scotland, according to official statistics.

Just 65% of pupils were awarded five Standard Grades at general level or above. The national average was 75%.

Dundee's education convenor said there were "indications of a positive trend developing", but that there was "still a lot of work to be done".

Raise attainment

Councillor Laurie Bidwell said an increasing number of pupils had gained five Standard Grades in the past three years.

He said: "I would stress that we cannot be complacent and that we are committed to making sure that the rate of progress in improving exam results in our schools is not only maintained but increased.

"The ongoing support of parents and carers will continue to be a vital factor in the efforts that are being made to improve the situation in Dundee.

"We acknowledge that there is still a lot of work to be done and that is why we are undertaking a range of long-term initiatives that are specifically designed to raise attainment further."
