Thousands of children are without permanent homes
People living in and around Dundee are being targeted by a BBC campaign asking them to consider adoption.

Family Wanted, fronted by broadcaster Nicky Campbell, aims to give potential adopters and long-term foster carers information about what is involved.

Childcare professionals will be on hand to answer questions at a drop-in event at Dundee's Caird Hall on 9 September.

Local carers, adopters and adoptees will also be there to talk about their personal experiences.

'Important campaign'

There are more than 70,000 children in public care in the UK and a shortage of more than 10,000 foster carers.

The campaign will run through the summer with a series of programmes on BBC TV and radio.

Nicky Campbell said: "I was adopted shortly after I was born and couldn't have wished for better parents.

"This is a hugely important campaign for the BBC to be running, and I hope it can help other children find a family and a future."

The BBC Family Wanted event in Dundee will takes place at the Caird Hall, City Square, Dundee, on Sunday 9 September from 1200 - 1600 BST.
