Corner stores' safe drink drive
Alco pops
The leaflet will be given to everyone buying alcohol
Leaflets carrying alcohol warnings will be handed out in corner shops in Dundee over the weekend.

The safe drinking pamphlet explains the recommended daily number of units and provides information on the amount of alcohol found in a standard drink.

The information will be given to customers in 17 convenience stores as part of a pilot project from the Scottish Grocers' Federation (SGF).

If successful, it will be extended across Scotland for Christmas.

The 'Be Healthy, Drink Safely' leaflets will be given to every customer who buys alcohol from Friday night through to Sunday evening.

SGF chief executive John Drummond said it would help people "make informed decisions about living more healthily".

Alcohol safety leaflet
The scheme could be rolled out across Scotland

He said: "Consumers tell our members that they want easy to understand information from a trusted source to help them make decisions.

"The messages contained in the leaflet are important for us all. Know your limit, be healthy and drink safely.

"Through initiatives such as this we can show that convenience stores can be both a safe and secure outlet for alcohol and a responsible member of the community they serve."

He added that many Scottish convenience stores already pioneered community safety initiatives.

Mr Drummond said: "It is our members who are on the front line for a great deal of the alcohol related antisocial behaviour; when communities suffer we suffer.

"That is why we will continue to play our part by promoting a responsible approach to alcohol and other age-restricted products to our industry and consumers alike."
