The oil spill on the Forth could clearly be seen from the air |
A company blamed for an oil spill on the Forth has promised to do everything possible to prevent it happening again. Petrochemical firm Ineos in Grangemouth was served with an enforcement order by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) following the leak.
Oil washed up along several kilometres of foreshore after the petrochemical plant's flood defences failed earlier this month.
The firm has also launched its own investigation into what went wrong.
An estimated 200 cubic metres of oil escaped into the water after heavy rain at the start of July.
Further deadlines
Sepa confirmed the plant, which is the only known source of the leak, had taken action to upgrade its storm water abatement equipment.
The agency said: "Ineos has complied with the initial requirements of the enforcement notice served by Sepa.
"Further deadlines are in place for Ineos to implement the interim and long-term measures.
There were fears the leak could harm wildlife but so far no dead birds or fish have been found.
