The Larbert hospital will be the base for acute services
Work has begun on one of Scotland's biggest public private partnership (PPP) hospital contracts near Falkirk.

The 300m hospital at Larbert will replace Falkirk and Stirling Royal Infirmaries to provide state-of-the-art facilities for the whole Forth Valley.

Preparations on the former Royal Scottish National Hospital site began in February. Contractors Laing O'Rourke are now on site to begin construction.

Work is expected to be completed by December 2009.

NHS Forth Valley chairman Ian Mullen said: "The vision for hospital services in Forth Valley is becoming a reality.

"A great deal of work has taken place to get the project to this stage and we are all looking forward to hospital services being provided in modern, appropriate facilities."
