Some strike travellers unaffected

Dundee Train Station
The train station at Dundee was virtually empty on Wednesday
Rail travellers in the Tayside area seemed to have been largely unaffected by strike action which caused major disruption in other parts of Scotland.

Dundee train station, in contrast with Edinburgh and Glasgow, was virtually deserted during the day.

Train time information boards at the station were, in the main, blank.

Further south, the problems were slightly more serious at Perth and Stirling, where services were either reduced or cancelled.

The strike by signal workers over a working conditions dispute meant that trains between Stirling and Edinburgh ran hourly from 1100 GMT on Wednesday, with the last departures at 1700 GMT.

Trains on the route on Thursday are expected to run only between 0700 and 1700 GMT, before normal service resumes on Friday afternoon.

However, bus firm Stagecoach came to the rescue of any stranded passengers in Perth by laying extra buses on in the area, after Perth to Glasgow services were cancelled.
