Police said drivers were continuing to take chances |
A total of 20 drivers in Tayside have fallen foul of the tough new mobile phone laws - on the first day they came into force. Police now have powers to issue a 60 fine and three penalty points.
The force said there was no excuse for the offences, as there had been plenty of publicity surrounding the new tougher penalties.
In Central Scotland, police said a total of seven drivers were caught using phones at the wheel.
Tayside Police said one of the drivers caught now faced losing his licence as he already had the maximum nine points.
Ch Insp Sandy Bowman, head of road policing, said: "Drivers continue to take chances in the hope they won't get caught and have no regard for the consequences."
