Funding bid for parkland project
Woodland
The project aims to boost the environment and the economy
The backers of a project to transform an empty site near Falkirk into a major area of parkland have launched a bid for 25m in funding.

The Helix would see the creation of a mile-long canal link, 21 miles of path and cycleways and 750,000 trees between Grangemouth and Falkirk.

It may depend on a successful bid for the funding to the Big Lottery Fund.

The Helix forms part of Falkirk's 10-year regeneration vision to create new jobs and boost the economy.

The project has been backed by Falkirk Council, British Waterways Scotland and Central Scotland Forest Trust.

The Helix project was given its name because of the spiral shape it would form from Langlees to Laurieston and Polmont.
