George Reid will stand down from Holyrood at the May elections
Holyrood's Presiding Officer George Reid is set to be awarded the freedom of Clackmannanshire in recognition of his "loyalty" to the small county.

The council said the Ochil MSP's decision to stand down in May presented the perfect opportunity to recognise his record of achievement.

Mr Reid, a former Nationalist MP, was born in Tullibody in 1939.

Clackmannanshire councillors have been asked to rubber stamp the award, to be made at a town hall dinner ceremony.

The local authority's chief executive Keir Bloomer paid tribute to Mr Reid's achievements, including his work with the Red Cross.

"For people in Clackmannanshire, however, what is perhaps most significant is his loyalty to the county and the unfailing enthusiasm he has demonstrated for promoting its interests," Mr Bloomer stated.
