Officers in gifts safety warning
Inflating crocodile
The product could pose a risk to children
Trading standards officers in Stirling and Clackmannanshire have issued a warning about the sale of potentially dangerous Christmas presents.

The two products, imported from China, were spotted during a recent routine visit to a local shop.

Officials found a spotted toy egg for sale containing an expanding crocodile which was found to be unsafe after testing.

A laser pen which could cause a permanent eye injury was also found.

The toy eggs, described as "growing pet crocodile eggs", were found to expand by more than three times the safe amount.

'Extremely dangerous'

Trading Standards Officer Brian Wilson said the product could cause suffocation.

"This level of expansion can be extremely dangerous or even fatal for a young child," he said.

The "super powered laser pointer key chains" were found to be Class III lasers - a strength not meant to be available to the general public.

The checks were made by officers acting for Stirling and Clackmannanshire Councils.

Anyone who has recently bought one of the products can contact trading standards on 0845 277 7000.
