McKinlay did not know he had committed a crime, the court heard |
A promising young footballer filmed a friend having sex with a 14-year-old girl before distributing the mobile phone images, a court has heard. Scotland under-16 striker Callum McKinlay passed the video round among school friends after the incident at a party in Perth.
At the town's sheriff court, the 16-year-old admitted making and distributing indecent images.
Sentence on the youngster, from Perthshire, was deferred.
The court heard how McKinlay and two of his friends recorded a 16-year-old youth having sex with the third-year pupil during the party in May.
When footage of the incident was distributed to several youngsters at a school in Perth, police were called in to investigate.
'Considerable distress'
McKinlay, from Bridge of Earn, admitted taking or making indecent photographs of a child and also admitted distributing or showing the images during a three-day period.
Fiscal depute Stuart Richardson said: "You can imagine the effect that had at the school, and the girl very quickly became aware this film was doing the rounds, which caused her considerable distress and embarrassment."
The court heard that the girl, who had been drinking before and during the party, became "inebriated".
Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said his client was 15 at the time and the girl had not complained about what happened until two days later.
"When he was interviewed he told the police he did not realise he was committing a crime," Mr Holmes said.
Following the case, a Perth and Kinross Council spokesman said pupils at the school had been told what action to take in the event of receiving inappropriate mobile phone messages.
