Staff poll 'backs' equal pay deal
Workers at Perth and Kinross Council have indicated in a staff poll their support for a plan to meet equal pay.

Local authority chiefs said the move would benefit the vast majority of employees, with pay increases in jobs mainly held by women.

However, hundreds of workers are also facing salary cuts.

In the council survey, three out of five employees either expressed no objection to the proposals, or their positive support for them.

Perth and Kinross Council said it would now discuss any concerns over the plans with trade unions.

Workers earmarked for salary reductions would see their pay levels protected for three years, during which time they would be given the opportunity to retrain.

The council promised that, if the proposals were accepted, there would be no job cuts and no impact on services.
