Hollywood and Broadway star Alan Cumming has accepted an honorary degree from Dundee's Abertay University. The 41-year-old, from Aberfeldy in Perthshire, received a doctorate of arts for his stage and screen work and campaigning on HIV/Aids awareness.
Glasgow-born journalist Muriel Gray was also honoured in recognition of her 20-year career in broadcasting.
They were presented in front of an audience of about 1,000 students and their families in Dundee's Caird Hall.
Introducing Cumming, Prof Lachlan Mackinnon said: "In an era of plastic, five-minute celebrities, famous for nothing, Alan provides the example that true celebrity is founded on genuine ability, talent, hard work and perseverance."
Film credits
Cumming, who trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, is known for his extensive film credits, including Goldeneye, Eyes Wide Shut and X-Men 2.
He received a coveted Tony award for his performances in Cabaret on Broadway, and on television has appeared in Sex And The City as well as hosting cult show Saturday Night Live.
Gray, 47, was co-presenter of Channel 4's cult 1980s music show The Tube and later founded her own production company, Ideal World Productions.
The mother-of-three, who graduated from Glasgow School of Art, received an honorary doctorate of letters.
