Alan Grant had been involved with scouting for more than 20 years |
A Scout leader who set up a fake camp so that he could lure boys to his home and abuse them has been placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for five years. Alan Grant, 42, a former assistant commissioner, made parental consent forms for the bogus event.
He has admitted sexually abusing two 15-year-old boys on 18 or 19 March.
Sentence at Perth Sheriff Court was deferred after Grant disagreed with a social workers' background report on his case.
The court heard how Grant, who was area assistant commissioner for scouting in Perth and Kinross, told social workers he had "sexual fantasies" about children.
However, he has denied making the comments and sentence was deferred for clarification.
Grant spent months lying to parents about a forthcoming scout camp he wanted their sons to attend.
'Position of trust'
The accountant was caught when his resignation from the scouting post after the incidents at his home in St Madoes, Perthshire, sparked an investigation into his reasons for leaving.
The court earlier heard that Grant, who had more than 20 years' involvement with the scouting movement as a volunteer, took the two boys to his home and gave them alcohol before he abused them.
Following the case, Scout Association (Scotland) chief executive Jim Duffy said: "Any incidence of abuse of a position of trust by any adult is of grave concern to us all.
"The Scout Association carries out stringent vetting of all volunteers who work with young people."
