 Lower house prices in Bo'ness have made it attractive to buyers |
Bo'ness has become Scotland's new top spot for first time buyers to get a foot on the property ladder, according to the Royal bank of Scotland. It said the town on the banks of the Forth has knocked Falkirk off the top spot for those seeking a home.
It was ranked number one in Scotland for affordability and investment and number two in the UK.
Bo'ness has average house prices of under �100,000 as well as major regeneration plans for the town.
Close links with Glasgow and Edinburgh have also made it a winner in the bank's First Time Buyer Property Index.
'Leap of faith'
The average house price in Bo'ness currently stands at �96,254, compared with the Scottish average of �124,481.
Hawick in the Borders took second place in the survey, with Highfield in North Ayrshire, Riverside in Inverclyde and Leith making up the rest of the Scottish top five.
The UK winner was Lindley in Huddersfield.
"Exploring areas that may not already be regarded as first-time buyer territory may seem like a leap of faith, but can often lead to the greatest potential for return," said an RBS spokesman.
The annual poll ranks postcode districts on their current desirability for first-time buyers and their potential for future growth in house prices.
