Ruling overturns wind farm plan
Wind turbine
ScottishPower expressed surprise at the council's decision
A council decision to refuse plans for a wind farm in Perthshire has been overturned by the Scottish Executive.

Permission for the 18-turbine project at Greenknowes near Auchterarder was denied by Perth and Kinross Council in November 2005.

But following an inquiry by a Scottish Executive Reporter, the proposals by ScottishPower have been deemed environmentally acceptable.

Perth and Kinross Council has not commented on the decision.

Scottish Power say the 30m development would generate enough power for 18,000 homes.

Work is expected to start next year with the turbines due to start turning in 2008.

No objections

A ScottishPower spokesman said the decision had vindicated the company's renewable energy policy.

"We were surprised when Perth and Kinross Council rejected our planning application despite the project having no objections from any of the statuary consultees and the recommendations of the council's own planning officials to approve it," the spokesman said.

"This was the reason we continued with the appeal process."
