Green project to educate pupils
An innovative project to teach youngsters about the importance of protecting the environment is being launched in Perthshire.

It is hoped the knowledge gained from the Waste Education Boardwalk (WEBWalk) initiative will eventually be used in classrooms throughout the area.

The project, to be launched next month, will use three seconded teachers to develop literature and lesson plans.

WEBwalk, based at Friarton Recycling Centre, will be unique to Scotland.

Perth and Kinross Council environment convener Mike Barnacle said of the project: "We hope that it will be especially useful in getting the recycling message across to the young people who visit.

"Today's youngsters will one day take our places so if we can instil in them now the ethos of being waste aware we will be making our contribution towards helping them avoid some major problems in the future."

WEBWalk is expected to open at the end of June.
