Police said the usual summer drink driving rise had come early |
Police have expressed concern after the number of drink-drivers caught in Perthshire reached an all-time high. A total of 34 drivers were caught over the limit in the area during April - the highest number for the month since records began, Tayside Police said.
During the same period 26 drink-drivers were caught in Dundee and 19 in Angus.
Police said high profile patrols and road checks, as well as more members of the public reporting drink-drivers, may have contributed to the increase.
Although national statistics show a higher number of drivers caught during the summer, Tayside Police said the "stark rise" so early in the year was concerning.

Ch Supt Matt Hamilton said: "Last month's figures are the highest since records began.
"These drivers put themselves and other road users at risk and they will find out the costs and consequences of their irresponsible behaviour.
"Not only do drink or drug-drivers run an increased risk of being involved in a collision, those who are involved in a collision may, at worst, have to live with the consequences of killing someone as a result of their selfish actions.
"Each person killed on the roads represents an individual tragedy for the friends and family. If you are one of these thoughtless drivers then make no mistake - we will catch you sooner or later."
Tayside Police, which has run several campaigns to battle drinking and driving, also pleaded with drivers not to "gamble" with their own body's tolerances to alcohol, saying there was no accurate guide.
