Police have warned of dangerous driving conditions in the south of Scotland following heavy rains with more downpours forecast. Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said many roads in the region were affected by standing water. Police have asked drivers to take the conditions into account and be prepared for poor visibility. The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the area from 1200 GMT on Wednesday to 0600 GMT on Friday. Heavy rain and strong to gale force winds have been forecast across Dumfries and Galloway. Rainfall is expected to be particularly heavy on high ground with up to 120mm (4.7in) expected over the next 48 hours. Parts of the north west of England are also forecast to be affected.
