Elaine Murray is taking her concerns to the Scottish Parliament |
An MSP is seeking Scottish Government support for staff affected after a dye company went into administration. The Langholm Dyeing Company based at Waterside Mills in Langholm made the move late last week with the loss of more than 60 jobs. Constituency MSP Elaine Murray said there had been rumours the company was in trouble for some time. She said she would be raising the issue in the Scottish Parliament to see what help could be given to workers. Ms Murray said she had been "shocked but not altogether surprised" by the move into administration. Raising issue "There had been rumours that the company was in trouble and not getting sufficient large scale orders to sustain its business," she said. "This is really bad news for Langholm, however, the loss of 60 jobs is serious for a community of its size. "I will be raising this issue with the Scottish Government to ask what support can be given to help the employees who will lose their jobs find alternative employment." The company is one of the town's major employers. A total of 52 employees were issued with immediate redundancy notices and a further 10 were retained to help wind up operations. Skills Development Scotland has been in talks with the company to offer support to the staff affected.
