Parade plan for cup final heroes

Queen of the South fans
Fans have been urged to turn out in force for the parade

Queen of the South players and officials will go on an open-top bus parade around Dumfries regardless of the result in the Scottish Cup final.

Dumfries and Galloway Council has organised the event for Sunday to mark the team's achievements.

It will also allow fans who missed out on tickets for the final with Rangers on Saturday to show their appreciation.

Provost Jack Groom said he hoped people would give the team a "hero's welcome" whatever the scoreline at Hampden.

The bus leaves the DG One leisure centre at 1345 BST on Sunday and will travel along Shakespeare Street, High Street and Buccleuch Street before heading to Palmerston Park.

Cllr Groom said: "We want people to come and fill the streets of Dumfries on Sunday and give Queen of the South the hero's welcome they deserve.

"Win or lose, it will be a fantastic weekend for everyone involved.

"We'd be delighted if people made the effort to make it even more special by being there."
