Waverley plans put in public eye

A public meeting is to be held to discuss the route plans
Plans to reopen the Waverley railway line between Edinburgh and the Borders are to be debated by the public.

Work has already started on the 35-mile multi-million pound project.

However, the Scottish Government has said that a funding shortfall on the plans meant its opening target of 2011 is not achievable.

The future of the scheme is now set to be discussed at a public meeting to be held in the village hall in St Boswells on 16 January.

The event has been organised by the Borders Party, which has spoken out against the link.

Local councillor Nicholas Watson will speak on their behalf.

SNP MSP Chris Harvie - who has close ties with the Campaign for Borders Rail - is also expected to attend.
