Barbara Kelly has been honoured with a DBE on the list

Barbara Kelly has been made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the latest list for her public service in Scotland.

As well as heading the region's arts festival, she is also the convener of the Crichton Foundation.

She was one of a number of people from across southern Scotland recognised in the honours.

Lilian Murray has been appointed an MBE for her services to the community in Castle Douglas.

Fire medal

Rev William McKenzie from Dumfries received the same honour for his work with the Victim Support Service.

In the Borders, the Queen's Fire Service Medal has been given to Gale Coates, the first female watch manager in charge of a retained station in Lothian and Borders.

She has been officer-in-charge of Eyemouth Fire Station since October 2001.

There was also recognition for Dr June Paterson-Brown, the former Lord-Lieutenant of Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale.

She has been made a Commander of the Victorian Order (CVO).
