Officers have questioned a 32-year-old man in connection with the incident, filmed near Selkirk and Galashiels.

The man has not been charged but police have described his actions as an "ill-judged publicity stunt".

Imitation weapons have been recovered. Police said the circumstances would be reported to the procurator fiscal.

Two five-minute films were posted on the video website showing men and women at different locations in the Borders.

The videos - Spree Killers and Chav Killers - showed rappers, wearing balaclavas and sunglasses, apparently firing guns and setting off explosions.

Locations used included Langlee, Bannerfield, and the ruined St Mary's Church.

A police spokeswoman said that carrying guns - whether real or replica - could constitute an offence if done in a public place and considered to cause "fear and alarm".
