Calvin Harris's first single has gone straight into the top 20 |
Dumfries musician Calvin Harris has seen his debut single go straight into the UK's top 20. Acceptable in the 80s - released by Columbia Records - entered the charts at number 17 on Sunday.
It is an impressive start to his musical career with a track originally recorded in his bedroom.
Harris has already made his mark in the music business while working as a producer and writer with stars like Kylie Minogue.
It crowns a hectic few months for Harris, from Georgetown, who up until recently was stacking supermarket shelves for a living.
 | Up until about a month ago my dad was still on at me to become a plumber which maybe I should have done as it is well paid nowadays |
"All my mates were deciding to go to uni and I made the decision to concentrate on my music," he said.
"Initially it was just the most ridiculous decision I could have made.
"All my mates went away to Stirling and Edinburgh and I was stuck working in Safeway with this absurd dream."
UK tour
However, the dream is well on the way to being realised with a first single out and an album due later this year.
Harris and his band are also due to tour with Faithless.
The Dumfries artist admits it has all taken both him and his parents by surprise.
"Up until about a month ago my dad was still on at me to become a plumber which maybe I should have done as it is well paid nowadays," he said.
"They are just about coming to terms with what is happening - as I am."
