A group of charity dancers from Dumfries has helped to raise a total of 46,000 for charity.

The total is more than double the amount the organisers of the Strictly Dance Fever contest had anticipated.

It will be shared by the Meningitis Research Foundation, Cash for Kids, the Shamiam Arif Appeal and the RAP Foundation for Romanian Orphans.

Organisers Michael and Patsy Pattie said they were stunned by the amount which had been raised.

Grand finale

The Strictly Dance Fever event was played out over four nights culminating in the grand finale at the Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries on Saturday.

From an initial 21 couples, a dozen finalists performed their routines in front of a 400-strong audience.

Among those who made it to the final was BBC Dumfries broadcast journalist Laura Seawright with her dance partner Michael Porter.

The overall winner was a Saturday Night Fever disco routine by Sinclair Barbour and Frances Forsyth which secured the public vote.
