Pupils place in 'Heart of Hawick'
Youngsters at cobble project
More than 300 pupils took part in the cobble project
Students from three schools have had their names preserved for posterity in the Heart of Hawick cultural project.

More than 300 pupils from Hawick High, Burnfoot Community and Trinity Primary Schools worked with artist Jane Gaze on the cobble "causeway".

Each one made a cobble carrying their family surname using old type from local printers Scott and Paterson.

The stones have been set in the ground outside the town's Heritage Hub which houses an archive and genealogy centre.

The cobbles have been fired to stoneware temperature which makes them resistant to weathering so they should be in place for decades to come.

'Part of history'

One of the participants, Cody Burgon, 11, of Burnfoot Community School said she thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the project.

"In years to come I might bring my children or even my grandchildren to see the cobble I made," she said.

"It's like being part of history"

The official opening of the Heritage Hub is planned for later this year.
