Mobile phone fraudsters warning

Police have issued a warning about a new mobile phone scam
Police have warned mobile phone users in the Dumfries area about a scam which allows criminals to make calls using any phone.

Anyone receiving a call from a person claiming to be a phone company engineer asking them to press certain numbers, should end the call immediately.

Pressing the numbers on a handset allows the fraudsters to access the phone's SIM card.

They can then use the phone to make calls at the owner's expense.
