Trelleborg make suits for use in extreme environments |
A specialist Dumfries company making dry suits for professional divers has been sold off to a Swedish rival. Hunter Diving Ltd, based at Heathhall, has agreed a deal with "extreme environment" suit makers Trelleborg.
The Scandinavian firm has announced its intention to transfer production of the suits to Lithuania early next year.
Hunter's head of finance Alan Symon said a small number of staff would be affected but it was hoped they could be redeployed to avoid redundancy.
Hunter Diving was part of the Hunter Rubber Company which went into administration earlier this year.
Famous name
A consortium subsequently bought out the company securing a future in Dumfries for the famous name.
Mr Symon said Trelleborg had been interested in buying the diving business at the time Hunter called in administrators.
He added that the suits would continue to be produced in Dumfries until at least spring next year.
He said staff and unions would be consulted on the deal with a view to avoiding any redundancies.
