Police in offer to Polish workers
Police in the Stewartry have planned an event to reach out and develop links with migrant workers from Poland.

An information day will be held in Castle Douglas next month aimed at helping to improve their integration.

While exact numbers are not known, Poles in Kirkcudbrightshire are known to be working in dentistry, fishing, catering and food processing.

Police said immigrants can feel isolated or vulnerable and may need help in dealing with official agencies.

The information day is at Castle Douglas town hall on 11 November.

The aim is to help break down the barriers caused by cultural and language differences.

It will address issues such as personal safety, learning English, school enrolment, employment regulations and legal advice.

Housing, motoring requirements and problems encountered in opening bank accounts - due to money laundering regulations - will also be discussed.
