Strike action avoided at Barbour
Strike action at clothing company J Barbour & Sons has been averted after last-ditch negotiations.

About 200 workers at the Tweedbank and South Shields factories were due to strike on Friday over a wage dispute.

A deal has now been struck between management of the 112-year-old company and union officials which has resulted in the action being cancelled.

T&G officials will take the deal to mass meetings at both factories and are confident it will be accepted.

Regional organiser Tony Trench said they would be recommending acceptance of the deal.

He admitted that neither side would have benefited from the industrial action.
