Police have identified a woman who may have lain undiscovered for nearly two days after an A75 crash. The body of Caecelia Becks-Phelps, 46, of Corsock, was discovered by police on Wednesday afternoon.
The fatal accident was thought to have happened between 2030 and 2130 BST on Monday about half a mile east of Crocketford, near to Larglea Farm.
Police had issued a missing person appeal for Ms Becks-Phelps after she failed to return home from work.
No other vehicles were believed to have been involved in the incident and police have continued their appeal for witnesses.
A police statement confirmed a dark Vauxhall Corsa had left the road and ended up down an embankment.
'Sorely missed'
The victim's family released a short statement following the discovery of the accident.
"Caecelia was a wonderful wife, mother, midwife and dear friend and her loss in a car crash is tragic, sudden and unexpected," it stated.
"We request at this time our privacy is respected and that we are allowed to grieve with family and friends.
"She was a wonderful and unique person who was loved very much by everyone who knew her and will be sorely missed."
