School playgrounds will be out of bounds in Annan at night
Police have placed exclusion zones around all the schools in Annan throughout the summer holidays.

Nobody without a "proper reason" will be allowed into the areas between 1800 and 0700 every night.

The exclusion zones will operate in the grounds of Annan Academy and the primary schools of Hecklegirth, Elmvale, St Columba's and Newington.

A police spokesman said it was part of moves to tackle anti-social behaviour and vandalism in the area.

"It is unfortunate that we have to resort to such measures," said Pc Colin Scott of Dumfries and Galloway Police.

"However, to protect public property these zones will run throughout the summer holidays as well as during term time.

"With actions such as this we are actively tackling the issue of anti-social behaviour and vandalism."

Police are able to move people on from exclusion zones or arrest them if they fail to comply with such requests.

"We want to make our schools safer and more pleasant for everyone," added Pc Scott.

"New signs have been erected regarding the zone at Annan Academy and I encourage everyone to take heed of them."
