Mountain biker winched to safety
HMS Gannet Sea King
A helicopter was scrambled from the naval base at HMS Gannet
An injured mountain biker had to be winched about 60ft through trees to a rescue helicopter after a crash.

The 33-year-old was thought to have suffered back injuries when he came off his bike in Glentress Forest near Peebles on Saturday.

A search and rescue helicopter was called to assist emergency services because the man was in an area of difficult terrain.

He was airlifted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The helicopter was scrambled from the Royal Navy base at HMS Gannet in Ayrshire and was co-ordinated by the Royal Air Force search and rescue centre at Kinloss.

Glentress Forest is renowned for mountain biking with the Forestry Commission building many new all-weather bike paths throughout the forest.

A helicopter was also required to assist a person who suffered a heart attack on Goat Fell in Arran on Saturday.

The condition of the casualty was not known.
