Force's warning to drink-drivers
Breath test
Police were disappointed by the number caught drink driving
A continued crackdown on the "outrageous behaviour" of drink-drivers in Dumfries and Galloway has been promised by the police.

It comes after eight people were discovered driving while over the legal alcohol limit at the weekend.

The incidents occurred in Lockerbie, Dumfries and Annan, as well as on the M74 motorway in the region.

Police said it was "disappointing" that some people continued to ignore safety messages about the issue.

One of the drivers caught between 25 and 28 May was measured at more than four times the legal breath test limit.

All the people involved will be reported to the procurator fiscal and four had been in road accidents.

'Worrying trend'

"It is extremely disappointing that drivers continue to ignore our safety messages," said Insp Katrina Close.

"Everyone knows the dangers of driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence, yet some remain convinced drink will not affect them.

"Thankfully on this occasion no-one was seriously injured.

"However, drink-drivers must remember they are not only endangering themselves but also innocent members of the public.

"Clearly this is a worrying trend, especially with the increased number of fatal accidents our region has suffered recently.

"Our officers will continue to challenge this outrageous behaviour."
