The majority of people who die by suicide are young men

Members of the education and community services committee are being recommended to approve the Choose Life action plan for the next two years.

The proposed strategy forms part of national plans to reduce suicide rates in Scotland by 20% by 2013.

If approved the money will be put into projects developed by the local mental health and well-being team.

Choose Life objectives include early prevention and intervention work, responding to immediate crises, support work and promoting greater public awareness and encouraging people to seek help early.
