Workers urged to reject pay offer
Dumfries and Galloway Council
Unison is asking workers to reject the council's offer
A trade union representing council workers in Dumfries and Galloway is urging members to reject an equal pay offer tabled by the local authority.

Unison has criticised the proposed deal which it claims represents just over half the amount it is seeking.

The awards are designed to compensate for past pay discrimination against some sections of staff - mainly in jobs traditionally done by women.

Dumfries and Galloway Council has yet to respond to the union's position.

The union also said many staff had been missed out on receiving offers.

Local branch secretary Marion Stewart claimed that what was being offered was poor in comparison to the levels workers were entitled to.

"Unison has always wanted to come to a negotiated agreement that addresses all the important aspects to counter unequal pay," said Ms Stewart.

She added that the union felt it had no option but to recommend rejection of the offers.

The union will then be looking to take cases to tribunal.
