Service seeks to help new mothers
Pregnant woman
The new centre will help women to cope after pregnancy
A centre for families where the mother has post natal depression (PND) has been officially opened in Galashiels.

CrossReach - a part of the Church of Scotland - runs the Elm Row centre to provide counselling, therapy and liaise with other health organisations.

A pilot counselling programme has also been started in Eyemouth and it is hoped to develop the service further.

Local co-ordinators said PND was a debilitating condition which is known to affect 10% to 15% of all mothers.

The centre was officially opened by Lib Dem MP Michael Moore on 19 May.

It provides individual counselling, art therapy, a women's therapy group and works with families as well as providing crche facilities.
