Funding uncertainty at the museum is causing concern |
Funding concerns about the Wanlockhead Museum of Lead Mining have been raised with the Scottish Executive. SNP South of Scotland MSP Alasdair Morgan said the site had been close to closure on a number of occasions.
He was seeking clarification over what resources might be available to keep the centre open in something other than a "hand-to-mouth manner".
The executive has indicated the site might be able to benefit from funds earmarked for independent museums.
"This has been an issue with which I have been involved for six years now," said Mr Morgan.
"During that time, the museum has been close to closure on several occasions."
He expressed disappointment that no stronger assurances for the future could be given.
"Warm words were certainly forthcoming regarding the value of the museum to Scotland's cultural and industrial heritage but no funding commitments were forthcoming."
