Most Western Isles schools shut

Snow on the streets of Inverness where schools reopen next Monday

The majority of schools on the Western Isles have been unable to reopen following Tuesday's closure because of bad weather.

The opening of primary and secondary schools across Scotland after the festive break have been affected by bad weather.

Schools in the Highland Council area do not reopen until next Monday.

The region has experienced some of the worst winter conditions in 30 years, according to Highland Council.

BBC weather forecasters said temperatures could drop to -20C in parts of the Highlands later this week.
